The story of a big fluffy rescue, the magnificent breed behind the floof, and how you can help sheepdogs still waiting for their forever home.
I'm an Old English Sheepdog — which is funny because I'm not old, I'm not English, and I've never even MET a sheep.
I didn't always have a home. For a while, I lived at a rescue. It was noisy. Lots of barking. Big dogs. Loud dogs. Dogs who had opinions about EVERYTHING. I made myself very small. (Which is hard when you're this fluffy.)
Then my mom found me — and everything changed. Now I have a couch (that I'm not supposed to be on), a yard full of squirrels (who don't pay rent), and a family that thinks I'm perfect. (I am.)
The Old English Sheepdog (OES) is one of the most recognizable — and lovable — breeds in the world. Known for their shaggy double coat, bear-like shuffle, and goofy personality, these gentle giants were originally bred in England to drive cattle and sheep to market.
Despite their name, they're not actually that old as a breed (dating to the early 1800s), and they weren't always from England either. What they ARE is loyal, playful, patient with children, and absolutely hilarious.
OES are increasingly rare — fewer than 300 are registered with the AKC each year. That makes rescue and responsible breeding more important than ever.
Bindi came from rescue — and there are still sheepdogs out there waiting for their person. Texas Old English Sheepdog Rescue works tirelessly to save, rehabilitate, and rehome OES dogs across the state.
Whether you can adopt, foster, volunteer, or donate — every bit helps a sheepdog find their couch. (They WILL find the couch.)
